Wait, what? Nebbiolo from Australia? I thought this was a gimmick or a stunt, and my expectations were not high before trying it. I was thoroughly proved wrong. Not only is this an amazing wine in its own right, this is one of the purest, most beautiful expressions of Nebbiolo that I’ve had. Nebbiolo is the principle grape for Barolo and Barbaresco wines in Piedmont Italy. It’s amazing to see the grape transported to Australia to make a wine of this high quality. Light body, spicy. Bright red cherry and dried orange peel sing out, with layers of cedar and smoke. In Iceland, I would put this wine up against any of the Barolos for the price that you can find.
