Greek wines merit a singular spotlight, their time to shine. Crete was the home of the first European Civilization thousands of years ago. Winemaking, tradition, and even some grape varietals can be traced back here to Ground Zero for wine in Europe. I’ll readily admit that I didn’t give Greek wines much consideration in my studies. The names were intimidating and obscure, outside of my comfort zone.
I went to Greece and Crete for a few weeks, and made it a point of trying every varietal I had never heard of. I do not write to lose you in obscurity, to tell you these wines are the New New Thing. I write to tell you that when you happen upon this piece of Earth, immerse yourself and discover the real Old World of wine. There is Old World and Old Magic happening here. Discover them here.
